CHRISTMAS || I DIYED THAT

Since I was young I’ve always enjoyed crafting and creating. I remember as a young girl I would make little dresses for my barbies with scraps of fabric. I spent many hours drawing and coloring and painting. I believe that passion for creating that I had as a young girl has grown with me. And now as a Wife and Mother I love using these little passions to create a warm, cozy homemade home for my family. 

I kept telling myself to hold off decorating for Christmas this year. I’m one that by November 1st I’m ready to deck my halls, but I was really enjoying Fall and didn’t want to rush into it. But, let’s be honest that lasted about a week and by the second week of November I was hauling decorations from our basement.

Like I mentioned in my previous post which you can check out here… my plan this year is simplicity. I made a decision at the beginning of 2017 to simplify my life and our home and I truly feel like I accomplished that. So like the rest of my year, this Christmas is all about the simple and handmade. 

Which brings me to today’s post. I had the pleasure to team up with some of my best blogger friends to bring you a DIY Christmas blog hop. As soon as I was asked to join this hop I knew exactly what I wanted to make. Which is rare because normally I have a million different thoughts and ideas and go back and forth trying to decide. But, not with this. I’ve had this similar idea pinned to my Pinterest board for a long time and knew this was the perfect opportunity to create my own version. 

I decided these felt trees would be the perfect addition to my littlest guy’s bedroom. My boys get more and more excited each year around the holidays. It makes this season of life so magical. Last year I decorated their room and knew I wanted to do something this year as well. So if you keep on scrolling you’ll get a little tour of their rooms and all the info on these adorable felted trees. I also had the honor to collaborate with my friends at Benzie Design for this project. They have a huge selection of felt sheets and wool balls for garlands. Aside from my felt craft project I used only items I had on hand from previous years to decorate their rooms. I love re using items year after year and changing up how I style them in my home. We don’t have the budget to buy all new holiday decor every year. So I encourage you to get creative with what you have. I know you can create something beautiful! Anyhoo…on with the show!

This was one of my favorite books growing up. It’s a cherished piece from my childhood. I love that my boys can enjoy it now too! The Jolly Christmas Postman

the little wool ball garland was made out of wool balls from Benzie Design as well. Ive had them for a few years now! 

Felt Tree DIY

• You will need
  • about 1/2 yard wool felt for each tree
  • scissors
  • pencil
  • tree stencil. I printed mine from a google search [christmas tree template] 
  • hot glue gun
  • wood slices
  • dowel rod 

Print and cut out your template and fold in half. Fold your felt piece in half as well. Trace your tree and cut out. I cut about 6-7 pieces per tree. Once all your pieces are cut out you simply fold your felt in half a glue each piece to your dowel rod. I purchased my dowel rod from AC Moore and cut three pieces from it. I cut various heights. When gluing try to keep everything close together so your tree is full and you don’t see any dowel peeking through. Once all your felt is glued on I simply glued each dowel to the wood slice with hot glue. Originally I was going to drill a hole into my slice to fit the dowel inside. But, this seemed a lot simpler and so far the glue seems to be holding them in place!
