DIGGING – It would not be spring if you weren’t out in the garden digging around a bit right? We are planning on changing the landscaping a little bit this year, which means we may be borrowing a friend’s digger…(I can’t think of the name) I’m so not a farmer, you guys, haha….maybe it’s …. oh I don’t know, my brain isn’t working as I type this. Either way it’s a machine that is going to help us dig up some of the very oversized garden beds. This garden bed doesn’t even have many plants in it. It’s actually a bad spot because it doesn’t get a lot of sun and it’s shaded by several trees. We decided we are going to lay some grass seed to enlarge the yard for the boys to run around.

LISTENING – We’ve been listening to a lot of hymns lately and also Bach. I think Bach is my favorite composer and I just find so much pleasure in listening to his music.

READING – Oh my, I always have so many books going at once. I don’t know why I do that to myself. Right now I’m reading To Seek and To Save by Sinclair Ferguson. I’m also reading A Chance to Die by Elisabeth Elliot and A Brave New World, which can I say is totally crazy and for lack of a better word in the moment….scary… ? Maybe eery would be better? Whatever the word I’m looking for it’s a strange book. What makes it all the more unsettling is you can see some of the situations and thought concepts happening in our current time. Eek!

PODCASTING – So many podcasts so little time. Right now I’m longing for less politics and cultural commentary and instead playing a lot of Renewing Your Mind with RC Sproul and the Systematic Theology podcast with Wayne Grudem. I have his book and I like to use it for specific study, but I have found it is helpful to listen to it as well.

LEARNING – The boys are finishing up their animal unit in Science which has been a lot of fun. We have a zoo trip planned in April and we are all very excited for that!

SUN BATHING – Any chance we get we are outside sun bathing. Sometimes I think we are like the cats sitting in the windows chasing the warmth from the sun. Mama grabs her chair and a book and the boys their chalk and scooters and we just enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. We’ve also been going on bike rides every chance we get.

GATHERING – With old friends and some new for a co-op a friend just started. They have a sweet homestead and she’s opened her home up to us and some others. We’ve only met once, but it was so nice to be apart of a group again. Through the past year, we really missed community. We will mainly be focusing on science/nature and maybe some art in this new group and we are all looking forward to the weekly get-togethers!

MAKING – I’ve been using my crock pot quite often. With busy homeschool days, trying to get finished up with this school year, it’s just super easy to throw a bunch of things into the crock pot. Chicken Chili is a favorite right now with tortilla chips for dipping.

SINGING – O Come Thou Font

Come Thou fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise

Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount, I’m fixed upon it
Mount of Thy redeeming love

Here I raise my Ebenezer
Here by Thy great help I’ve come
And I hope by Thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home

Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wandering from the fold of God
He to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood
(Precious blood)Oh, that day when freed from sinning
I shall see Thy lovely face
Clothed then in blood washed linen
How I’ll sing Thy sovereign grace

Come my Lord, no longer tarry
Take my ransomed soul away
Send Thine angels now to carry
Me to realms of endless days

Oh, to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be
Let Thy goodness like a fetter
Bind my wandering heart to Thee

Prone to wander, Lord I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here’s my heart, oh take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

Here’s my heart
Oh take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

SHOPPING – On Wednesdays the boys and I like to head out to the dry goods store. We grab our reusable bags. I have these and for some reason the boys just think they are the neatest. So we grab our bags and head out to fill them up with delicious foods. Right down the road from the dry goods store is a fresh produce market, the also have a pretzel stand so as a treat the boys each get a pretzel. It’s become something we look forward to each Wednesday.

WEARING – All the skirts and my favorite pair of sandals. I’ve been reaching for my skirts and dresses a lot more often. I have just been finding them so much more comfortable than jeans.

Thanks so much for stopping by today friends!

What things have you been up to so far this spring? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I love all your spring “ings”! I always have a bunch of books going at the same time myself. Right now it’s R.C Sproul’s Knowing Scripture, A Family Guide to the Biblical Holidays, and The Magic of Ordinary Days. And YES to soaking up the sun, we are doing the same!

  2. Nesting as autumn cools us down a little, bread making, dreaming of days without deadlines for study, getting ready to bed my garden for winter, and praying the Lord will stem the tide of evil that face our children’s generation. Also trying to get more days of skirts and dresses before it gets too cool. 🙂
