SUMMER AT HOME

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. — Colossians 3:15-17

Dear ones, let the message of Christ dwell among you….Think of a home, a family is well known to each other, they are loved and respected. Just as a family dwells in a home, loving, respecting and cherishing each other, so the word of God should be in our hearts… It should be well known, cherished, loved, and respected. The truth of His word should be constant and fixed within each one of us. And we are to sing to Him with gratitude and thanksgiving, and in all we do, in whatever season we’re in, may all that we do be done for His glory. Let His peace rule, saints!

Hello, friends, anyone who’s been following along for a while knows I’m a lover of home. I love keeping house and caring for my people, I find happiness puttering around the house, creaking hardwood floors underfoot, doing this or that, the laughter of my boys in the living room. Home is my favorite place and I love savoring the simple moments throughout the seasons. Our summer at home this season sure has been sweet and I’m so grateful for it. It’s been filled with quiet mornings, tent building, afternoon swimming, porch sitting, evening walking, firefly catching, ice cream eating and lots and lots of reading. I thought today I’d share what our days have looked like.

6 AM | Mom and Dad get up – I help my husband pack his lunch. We eat a light breakfast, usually waffles that I make big batches of over the weekend. I make my coffee and cozy up with my coffee and Bible and spend time in the Word and in prayer. I also like to read some books during this time. I’ve been reading some of my favorites. Knowing God by J.I. Packer — Everyone’s a Theologian by R.C. Sproul — Morning and Evening by Spurgeon — and a few new ones — 12 Extraordinary Women by John MacArthur and Parables by John MacArthur.

7 AM | See my husband off. I throw in a load of laundry and empty the dishwasher.

7-7:30 AM | The boys are usually up and ready for breakfast. Most mornings they have peanut butter toast and yogurt with granola — but sometimes we get donuts as a special treat!

7-9 AM | Breakfast + clean up + chores + play — while the boys play I work on my daily cleaning rhythm tasks

9-10 AM | Morning basket + Bible + little lesson. We read some scripture and we’ve been using Truth and Grace Memory Book, our Tiny Theologian Cards, The Ology, and a read aloud. After that we do a short lesson | or practice handwriting.

10-11 AM | Outdoor play [or indoor] The boys have been playing a lot with their bubbles and their sprinkler on these hotter than hot days we’ve been having, sometimes we’ll walk to the park and they skip stones and we watch the ducks

11-12 PM | Lunch + cleanup

12-4 PM | Depending on the day, we may have a play date, go to the pool, run errands, bake something or we play + read + practice piano + quiet time. The boys will also get screen time for about an hour or so as well. I will take some time to tidy up and finish some chores and workout.

4-5 PM | Dinner Prep + Listen to a sermon

5-6 PM | Sit down together for dinner + clean up

6-9 PM | Family time + baths + we watch old cartoons or a show together + read + bedtime

9-10 PM | Mom and Dad spend time together + I read before I go to sleep
