Happy September dear friends!! Can you believe it’s here already!? I know I can’t. This year has flown by at lightening speed. I’m so excited about this months morning basket. If you’re not familiar with morning basket, it’s basically a small collection of books and resources to gently begin your day with littles. We have loved having a morning basket. It’s become a great time to ease into our day. Read good books, explore new things and ideas, be creative and have fun. Everyone’s morning basket doesn’t look the same and that is the beauty of it. You can tailor it to fit the needs and interests of your family. I personally like to focus on Bible time, read aloud + activities to correspond with it, art study, music, and poetry. For September, to celebrate and welcome the coming fall season, I’m focusing on moon study, leaf study, + a few extra fun fall themed activities! So glad you stopped by today, I have everything all the details below!
Bible – Psalm 96:11-12 – we will be spending time memorizing Psalm 96:11-12. We will also be continuing our daily devotional. We are currently reading Indescribable by Louie Giglio
Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it. Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them, let all the trees of the forest sing for joy.
Art Study – we are going to study Claude Monet this month. I chose Autumn Effects at Argenteuil to begin our focus. We may explore some of his other artwork, and I’m hoping we have some time to create some of our own.
Poetry – we are going to focus on Autumn Fires by Robert Louis Stevenson this month. It’s included in A Child’s Garden of Verses. I thought it fitting for this month.
Autumn Fires by Robert Louis Stevenson
In the other gardens
And all up the vale,
From the autumn bonfires
See the smoke trail!
Pleasant summer over
And all the summer flowers,
The red fire blazes,
The grey smoke towers.
Sing a song of seasons!
Something bright in all!
Flowers in the summer,
Fires in the fall!
Read Aloud Books – We have a ton of books this month from our library haul. Thankfully our library offers a 50 book max, haha. I’ve shared my top five below and a few ideas/activities I plan to incorporate and weave into each book.
Around the Oak by Gerda Muller
This will be our first time reading this one. I’ve heard so many great things. My hope is to do a nature walk/ treasure hunt. We did one last year and the boys loved it! All you need is an egg crate and a list of things to find.
Fall Leaves by Loretta Holland
A simple leaf study would be a wonderful addition to any fall leaf book. We’ll likely spend some time looking at different types of leaves and collecting them when we come across them.
Hello, Harvest Moon by Ralph Fletcher
My boys loooooove moon gazing, tracking the moon phases and their favorite moon of the whole year is the harvest moon in September. Some fun activities would be to track the moon phases, have a fun harvest moon party, maybe a late picnic in the yard with simple fall treats and lanterns! I’ve included a few moon resources below.
The Apple Pie Tree by Zoe Hall
A fun activity to include with this book would be a simple apple pie recipe. Also if you have a local apple tree farm, September is a wonderful time for apple picking. Every year we go mid September and then come home with our bounty to make applesauce, apple pie, and apple crisp. It’s a tradition I look forward to each year.
Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert
We’ll be trying to make our very own leaf man this September to partner with this book. I’ll be sure to share how he turns out 😉
Thanks a bunch for stopping by! Blessings,
