The air is cold and windy today. As I sit here writing this, the boys are playing. There’s a pot simmering away on the stove filled with oranges, rosemary, cinnamon sticks, and cloves. The house smells like Christmas [sigh] and it’s glorious. While things are slow and quiet as we sit in the warm house with all of our twinkle lights on I figured I’d take the opportunity to jot down how I make my dried oranges. So many of you mentioned how much you love to see the dried oranges this time of year, but have struggled to get them just right and not burnt. This is my tried and true method and It hasn’t failed me yet. Scroll on down for all the details! This is a great way to slow down during a season that seems to be going at a faster pace year after year. Get the kids involved and I guarantee it’ll be a fun family tradition you’ll look forward to for years to come.

How To Dry Oranges
Step 1. Slice oranges about 1/8 of an inch thick.
Step 2. Pat sliced oranges with a paper towel to remove some of the excess liquid
Step 3. Lay oranges flat on a wire rack and place on top of a cookie sheet
Step 4. Place in a 175 degree oven | or the lowest setting on your oven | bake for 3- 4 hours turing every half hour or so.
Step 5. String dried oranges on embroidery floss/twine and hang as a garland or tie up and use as ornaments.
Blessings Friends!

Do you think this would work alright with grapefruits? 🙂

Yes, Just be sure to check them often and keep flipping them on the lowest setting on your oven. Because of the sugar content being different I’d just keep an eye on them to make sure they don’t burn
