One of the first things I made when I first started using essential oils was a homemade linen spray. Literally the rest is history. I love incorporating oils in our day to day and I’m sharing some of my favorite oils for your Summer Home and these are really just the beginning. There are so many wonderful and beneficial blends out there. As always please use caution when using oils. I recommend pure oils as well as proper dilution ratios. I also recommend knowing which oils are safe to use around your little ones and pets. Oils are amazing assets to our homes and health however they are strong and need to be used properly. For these recipes you’ll need:
- Glass amber spray bottles – I like to get mine from Amazon – I’ve linked them below
- Witch Hazel
- Distilled Water
- Essential Oils
- Carrier oils such as Almond Oil or FCO
- A Diffuser – mine is similar to this one
My Favorite Diffuser Blends
- 3 drops bergamot essential oil
- 1 drop lemon essential oil
- 1 drop ylang ylang essential oil
- 1 drop ylang yang essential oil
- 2 drops lavender essential oil
- 2 drops grapefruit essential oil
- 2 drops juniper berry essential oil
- 1 drop grapefruit essential oil
- 1 drops orange essential oil
- 2 drops cedarwood essential oil
- 1 drop lavender essential oil
- 1 drop orange essential oil
Bug Spray – do any of us really like bugs? I mean some of them are okay and there are certain insects I’d say are cute [butterflies for example] …ticks and mosquitos are not in that category though. To keep those nasty critters away while you’re outside enjoying the great outdoors use this recipe below. This will give you a 2% ratio
- 1 [2oz] amber glass spray bottle – I use these
- 1 tablespoon witch hazel
- fill the rest with distilled water
- 10 drops citronella essential oil
- 6 drops lemongrass essential oil – or lemon euculyptus [this is a younger child safe option] lemongrass is not recommended for kiddos younger than 6 however I have used it on my 3 year old, I just dilute it more.
- 10 drops lavender essential oil
- 10 drops geranium essential oil
Linen Spray – there’s nothing like collapsing laying in your cozy bed at the end of a busy summer day. This linen spray is something I look forward to every night and the touch of sweet ylang ylang is perfect for summer linens. To make a kid safe spray just follow the details below. This recipe will give you a 1% ratio
- 1 [2 oz] amber glass spray bottle
- 1 tablespoon witch hazel
- fill the rest with distilled water
- 15 drops lavender essential oil
- 3 drops ylang yang essential oil – as a child friendly option use roman chamomile instead you can then increase to 10 drops and decrease lavender to 10
Boo – Boo Spray – I’m sure like the rest of you Spring and Summer means a lot more time spent outside and if your kiddos are anything like mine [wild and adventurous] there are bound to be a few boo-boos every so often. This spray is perfect for those little owies. This recipe will give you about a 2% ratio
- 1 [2oz] amber glass spray bottle
- 1 tablespoon almond oil or FCO
- fill with distilled water
- 10 drops lavender essential oil
- 10 drops tea tree essential oil
- 10 drop frankincense essential oil
