Simple Ways To Prepare Our Hearts For Christmas and Slow Down This Season

“We’re ready for Christmas, not when we have all the gifts, but when we are ready for Christ – when we’re ready to give all of ourselves to Christ.” Ann Voskamp

My prayer for today’s post is that it finds you at just the right moment. That you leave this little blog feeling encouraged and refreshed. Encouraged to slow down and enjoy the small moments as we prepare ourselves to celebrate the birth or our savior. Because Christmas is meant to celebrate Him. His coming, His life, His majesty, grace, power, awesomeness, mercy, love, sacrifice, righteousness, holiness, compassion, goodness and glory. God in human flesh fully God and fully man born of a virgin and placed in a manger. Wow, its amazing and awesome, and mind blowing! To be so loved by God that he would be born, live, and die for His children. Amen? I’ve compiled a small list of things that our family does to prepare our hearts and keep our focus on Jesus during the Christmas season.

  • Begin by spending some time in prayer, asking God how you can best prepare your heart to celebrate the entrance of His Son into the world. Time spent at the feet of Jesus is never lost or wasted.
  • Make an Advent wreath
  • Gather…take time as a family to read scripture and/or sing songs each night. Spend uninterrupted time with the ones you love most.
  • Read from a devotional alone or as a family – this year we are reading from this book
  • Prepare Him room – we all know the story of how Jesus came into this world. We’ve all heard how there was no room for Mary and Joseph at the Inn. Make room in your heart, make time in your busy schedule. Invite Jesus in!!
  • Celebrate and worship. Gather with fellow believers and embrace the joy that comes from the knowledge that God sent His only son to the world as a ransom for us all.
  • Go caroling
  • Enjoy the beauty of the season. Hang some twinkle lights, decorate a tree. Set up a nativity scene in your home. Drive around and look at all the beautiful lights, visit a live nativity.
  • Volunteer at a shelter. Visit a retirement home, or simply perform simple acts of kindness, bring cookies to your local fire or police station. Make a meal for a friend. Love your neighbor as yourself.
  • Rest and reflect. Just be still. Wake up early while the house is still quiet and ponder life’s simple moments and gifts… Be joyful in the hope of what the coming of Jesus means.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

Blessings to you all this Christmas season! I’d love to hear what you and your family do to prepare your hearts for Christmas!! Leave me some comments below!! Lots of love!
